‘Why I Fought Patience Ozokwor’ – Mercy Johnson

Actress Mercy Johnson who was reportedly in a showdown with her older colleague, Patience Ozokwor on location in Asaba few weeks back, has blamed her uncontrollable outburst on Ozokwor’s repeated utterances referring to her as an ‘ashawo’- a hoochie.
Mercy recounted her side of the story . She noted that Patience Ozokwor was given a revealing clothe to wear on that location, apparently to depict a character in the movie that was in the making and Patience allegedly refused the outfit, stating that she is not Mercy Johnson, not an ‘ashawo’.
“I’m not a prostitute. I don’t like the name. I told her I didn’t like it”, Mercy said. According to her, the faceoff was escalated when Mama Gee refused to stop calling her by unpleasant name.

Basket Mouth - LORD OF THE STAGE

In 2010, his name went down in history as the second black comedian to perform comedy shows in indigo2 at the prestigious 02 arena in Greenwich London, a 2,500 capacity hall that was filled to the brim. He held another show that was a success as usual at Birdcage, a nightclub located in the heart of the vibrant city of Manchester and now Bright Okpocha the Nigerian world renowned comedian is out to set new records as he unveils plan to host the 1st Nigerian comedy show at the Hammersmith Apollo, a major entertainment venue located in Hammersmith, London.

Basket Mouth will not be gracing the stage of the Hammersmith Apollo hall that seats about 7,000 people and was the same venue Chris Rock an American comedian, actor and television producer, hosted his last show (Kill the Messenger) all by himself, the show billed for the 27th of May 2011 will also feature comedians like Julius Callahan, a renowned British comedian, Kevin J (UK), Gordons and Nkem Owoh.
Also returning in grand style and with bigger and better concepts is Laffs n Jamz, the monthly comedy show run by Basket Mouth at the Fantasyland in Ikoyi that attracted a lot of fun lovers in and around Lagos as well as featured musicians like Asa, sound sultan, 2 face, P Square, Blackface, Djinee, Face and others and comedians like Teju Babyface, Basorge, Okey Bakassi, I go dye, I go save, Gordons and more.
Laff n Jamz was also known for the uniqueness of its hosts one of which was Basket Mouth himself for close to 30 editions. Gordons later became the 1st comedian to host the show after Olisa Adibua. A couple of the shows were also hosted by Freeze.
Like it was before, Laffs n Jamz will be held every last Saturday of the month starting from June 2011 and this time around it will periodically feature foreign comedians and musicians.
Speaking on this new oars to his career Basket Mouth said ‘I am extremely dogged when it comes to satisfying the audience, but this does not mean it is easy, but you know one’s dreams has a way of pushing you to achieving the best which basically is the secret behind all I do’.
Already top brand are battling to take up the sponsorship of Laff n Jamz. www.mannamart.com

BREAKING NEWS - Reg. Sim Card Within Six Months Or Face Disconnection

The Federal Government has given telecommunication Subscribers in Nigeria six months ultimatum to register SIM cards or face being cut-off from the network.

Executive Vice Chairman Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Eugene Juwah, stated this Monday, at  the official inauguration of the registration of Subscriber Identification Module (SIM), cards, said it is imperative for security reasons for all subscribers in the nation to ensure their SIMs are registered.
The EVC called on Nigerians not to delay the registration till the last minute, said any SIM card that is not registered within the stipulated time would be cut off  would be cut off from the telecommunications networks.

According to him, “The exercise will help to reduce the number of crimes that are assisted by telecommunications as well as gather data that are essential for planning and implementation of government programmes.

“This event is very significant in many ways. First, this nation has been waiting for the day when all the SIM cards in use in the country are registered, and the identity of the owner of every line is known.

“Another significance of this is the achievement of a central data base for all mobile phone users in Nigeria. Today, therefore, marks a major step taken by the NCC to bequeath to the nation an important tool, a pool of data that will assist other government agencies, especially the security agencies and the National Identity Management Commission in carrying out their jobs in the national interest.”

He continued, “The registration exercise will last for a period of six months and registration centres will be deployed all over the country and all subscribers will find a centre close to their abode to register their SIM cards.

“No Nigerian or visitor to Nigeria using mobile phones is exempt from this exercise. At the end of six months of this registration, all unregistered SIM cards will be disconnected from the various networks.

More ex-bank chiefs will go to jail, says Sanusi

As the crisis that rocked the financial system appears to settle down, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reiterated its earlier stance, insisting that any sacked chief executive officer of the rescued banks found culpable will go to jail as a deterrent to others. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, central bank governor who spoke at HARDtalk, a BBC programme, said what happened to the rescued banks was as a result of poor risk management and regulation.
While answering questions at the programme on Monday, he said shareholders made a lot of profits at the expense of depositors. For what the chief executives did to the banks, he said, bankers must show remorse over their actions.
Negative shareholders’ funds are one of the main concerns for potential investors in Nigeria’s rescued banks despite the fact they have all returned to profit this year, he said.
He, however, agreed that he (Sanusi) may have made some mistakes in the past, but that he never made any mistakes in any of the key decisions he has so far taken.
Meanwhile, the naira weakened against the dollar on the inter-bank market on Monday even after the central bank increased supply at its bi-weekly foreign exchange auction, traders said.
The local currency traded at N155.70 to the dollar on the inter-bank market compared to N155.45 at Friday’s close with strong demand from bureaux de change unrelenting, traders said.
The central bank sold all the $586.42 million demanded at its dollar auction on Monday at a rate of N151.30, compared to $400 million at N151.27 at the previous auction last Wednesday.
The regulator initially offered $600 million on Wednesday.
Traders said dollar demand from bureaux de change and other transactions that cannot go through the official window -- which is limited to trade-backed dollar sales -- outweighed the impact of the central bank’s increased dollar supply.
“The fact that we cannot trade foreign exchange purchased at the official window among ourselves (inter-bank) is causing a disconnect between the two markets,” one dealer said.
Dealers said dollar inflows to the inter-bank market remained weak, and expected the naira to weaken further.
State-run energy firm, NNPC, sold around $400 million to some lenders on Friday, but it was not enough to satisfy the market.
Traders expect the naira to remain weak through presidential, National Assembly and state governorship elections next month as they believe much of the dollar demand is being fuelled by political uncertainty.

Naija and Nigeria. Which Do You Prefer?

ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER attended the big time THISDAY AWARDS in Lagos.
The "Commando" hero was caught on picture repping "Naija". Dora Akunyili, the former information minister, had shown vex to the name despite the rate at which young Nigerians are embracing the name "Naija". Even though the name Nigeria was giving to us by our British Colonial Masters......Naija seems a lot more COOLER.
So many Co-operate brands prefer to go with the "Naija" flare. Likes of Etisalat showing it off with 0809ja, Banks placing catchy adverts with Naija on it, even regular "Mama Put" now says "Naija Food Is Ready".

Bomb scare in Maiduguri

Police in Maiduguri thwarted a plot to bomb an opposition party election rally on Tuesday, while gunmen shot dead five people in separate incidents.
Violence has marred the run-up to elections next month in Borno state near Nigeria's borders with Chad, Cameroon and Niger. Politicians, religious leaders and police officers have been targeted in a spate of killings.
The attacks have been blamed on Boko Haram, a radical Islamist sect behind an uprising which killed hundreds of people in 2009, but residents and diplomats suspect they are primarily politically motivated.
Police commissioner Mohammed Abubaker said the security forces had been tipped off about a threat ahead of an election rally by the All Nigeria People's Party (ANPP).
"We received information that some people had completed training and were coming to attack some targets in Maiduguri ... We succeeded in arresting some of them with explosives meant to disrupt the ANPP rally," he said.
Borno is considered one of the main flashpoints for next month's elections. It is controlled by the ANPP, but its governor is set to step down. The party's candidate to replace him, Modu Fannami Gubio, was followed from a mosque in January by gunmen on motorbikes who killed him outside his home.
A youth leader from the party was also killed last Sunday.
Residents in Maiduguri, a sandswept city in one of Nigeria's poorest regions, have grown used to almost daily killings and were already on high alert ahead of the election rally.
But news of the bomb threat and of three separate shootings which killed five people as ANPP supporters headed towards a central square for the rally meant most abandoned the event.
Those who did attend walked with their hands in the air to show they were unarmed. The violence has been largely contained in Maiduguri and on its own does not risk derailing the national elections.
But it does diminish the prospects of a credible vote in a remote corner of Nigeria which already feels politically and economically isolated from the rest of the country and where radical Islamists have built a growing following.

Genevieve Nnaji on CNN African Voices – The Full Interview

(CNN) -- With her glamorous looks and exceptional talent, Nigerian movie star Genevieve Nnaji is one of Africa's most successful actresses.
The screen diva -- dubbed the Julia Roberts of Africa -- has starred in dozens of films, enchanting millions of movie fans across the continent.
The 31-year-old actress is considered to be a poster girl for Nollywood, the booming Nigerian movie industry, which according to UNESCO, is the world's second-largest film producer after India's Bollywood.
Nnaji has been performing in front of the camera from the age of 8. She is now one of Africa's most instantly recognizable faces and has won several accolades, including the 2005 African Academy Movie Award for Best Actress.
CNN's Pedro Pinto caught up with Nnaji before her latest movie premiere in London to discuss fame and her passion for Nigeria. An edited version of the interview follows.
Acting in a children's adventure
The Julia Roberts of Africa
CNN: Do you see yourself as an ambassador for your country?
Genevieve Nnaji: As long as you are a celebrity and in the public eye, you are an ambassador because you are the person they see -- they can't see the whole continent, they can't see the whole country.
CNN: How would you describe Nigeria to people who've never been there?
GN: Nigeria is a unique and a peculiar country, and as the people, we are too.
CNN: Why peculiar?
GN: Because everything, every aspect of human nature is in every Nigerian -- the good, the bad, the ugly, it's just like another New York. Nigeria is fun, to be honest.
But when...all we have people talking about when it comes to Nigeria is crime and fraud and things...that's just a very very minute number of people. Nigerians on the whole are very confident people. I believe we are confident, I believe we are very resourceful and we are very hospitable when it comes to visitors in the country.
CNN: When you look at your country, what are some of the things that you love about it?
GN: I like that as Nigerians we have some sort of neighborly love that we don't understand. We have a way of coming to the rescue of complete strangers. We do have that bond and I think it has to do with our background and how we are raised....I would never live anywhere else to be honest, no.
CNN: Really?
GN: No, I grew up in Lagos, I was born and bred there and I don't see myself leaving that town any time soon. I can work anywhere else but in terms of living, I'm used to Lagos.
CNN: How does it make you feel when people are screaming your name constantly?
GN: You never get completely used to it, like the last time I was here for the other premiere -- "Bursting Out" -- it was pretty overwhelming. I just thought, is this my life, all these people actually loving and appreciating me for who I am?
It's very humbling to be honest, I must say I'm blessed.
CNN: When did you realize that maybe this could be your future, this could be your career?
GN: I don't think I ever realized that, for a long time I kept thinking, OK, this is just temporary, definitely I'm going to go back to school and read law, English or something that I wanted to do.
So I never fully accepted acting as my profession. I don't think I saw myself there but somehow...here we are, I am an actor.
CNN: Do you ever get the feeling when you wake up in the morning one day that you wish you weren't famous?
GN: Oh yes, I don't even need to wake up, just sitting down sometimes I'm like, God, sometimes I hate my life. But I can't complain.
CNN: You have been referred to as the African Julia Roberts. When you hear that, what do you feel?
GN: Thanks to Oprah (Winfrey), it's very, very flattering, I mean not just because I'm compared to (Roberts) but because of who compared me to her.
So it's an honor to be honest but I think it's probably the vein we have on the forehead, I think that's what we have in common.
CNN: What do you wish for your future, where do you see yourself?
GN: I want to be further challenged in my career, I don't think I have reached my peak necessarily so I hope for other opportunities, greater opportunities to express myself.
Mostly because there is still something inside of me that I just feel I haven't let out and it's really trying to come out and trying to burst loose so I'm hoping for that opportunity...I just want that story, that story that challenges me even further.

Victim of voodoo ritual' named as 5year old Nigerian boy, Adam

This is the little boy whose headless and limbless body was found floating in the Thames ten years ago, it was claimed last night.

The five-year-old’s identity has remained a mystery after he was smuggled into Britain and murdered in a voodoo-style ritual killing. He was drugged with a ‘black-magic’ potion and sacrificed before being thrown into the Thames, where his torso washed up next to the Globe Theatre in September 2001.

20 ways to make money in your spare time

The new austerity measures from the coalition government mean many people will have to tighten their belts over the coming months. While sticking to a budget and finding ways to cut back are advisable, with a little imagination and effort you could find there are ways you can actually make money.
Moneywise has come up with 20 ways to make money during the credit crunch - some are easier than others but all of them could see you make some extra cash.

1. Track down old accounts

According to the British Bankers' Association, there is more than £15 billion sitting forgotten in bank and savings accounts in the UK, with the average balance estimated to be £600.
The good news is that tracing lost funds has become easier with Mylostaccount.org.uk — a free online service that covers all UK bank and building society accounts. All you need to do is to go to the website and type in your details.

2. Claim tax credits
It's always worth checking that you are receiving all the tax credits you are eligible for. Research by entitledto.co.uk found that people across the UK are collectively missing out on benefits and tax credits worth more than £8 billion a year. So while you're tracing lost funds, why not visit the entitledto.co.uk website too and work out how much you could claim.

3. Sort your savings

Another easy way to make money is to make sure your savings are working as hard as they can.
If you've had the same savings account for a while it might be worth shopping around because new customers tend to get the most competitive rates. Good rates come and go, but if you've had a savings account for more than a year the chances are the interest you are earning is not the best out there.
If you have a lump sum that you are prepared to lock away for 12 months or longer, then a fixed-rate account might be best. This type of deal will also protect you from interest rate cuts.
If you want to start a savings habit then a regular savings account is a good way to ensure you put a set amount of money away each month. But if you want to make deposits as and when, an instant access deal could be the one for you.
However, if you haven't yet used your ISA allowance for the current tax year then this sort of account should be the first home for any savings. You can save up to £5,100 each tax year as cash in an ISA and this will not be taxed.

4. Mystery shopper

If you're longing for some retail therapy but can't afford to hit the shops, why not earn a few pounds as a mystery shopper? Websites such as Retaileyes.co.uk employ mystery shoppers to drop in unannounced in shops and restaurants and rate their experience.
After you send in your feedback, you'll be paid for your time and reimbursed for any purchases you made. You could make up to £20 a day, and get a meal or a night in a nice hotel thrown in for good measure.

5. Use cashback credit cards

If you pay off your credit bill in full each month, a cashback credit card could be the way to go. These offer you moneyback on purchases in certain shops or on goods such as petrol.
"Cashback credit cards are a great way to reward savvy spenders," says Andrew Hagger, from Moneynet.co.uk, a price comparison website. "You can earn extra cash without even having to change your shopping habits."

6. Cashback sites

You can earn even more money from shopping online. Cashback websites will automatically pay you every time you buy a product or a service from selected retailers, from your weekly groceries to switching your utility provider.

7. Take in a lodger

While most of us pay a fortune for our homes, it's possible to make your home make money for you.
According to Abbey, you could make as much as £289 a month from renting out a spare room. Under the government's 'rent a room' scheme, you don't need to pay tax on the first £4,250 you receive either, which means you could charge up to £354.16 a month without being lumbered with a tax bill.

8. Rent out a parking space

If you live close to a city centre, train station or football stadium and don't use your parking space or garage, you're sitting on a proverbial goldmine. Renting an empty parking place to a commuter or football fan could see you rake in the pounds.
Parkatmyhouse.com is a website where you can advertise your space free of charge and let frustrated drivers get in touch. A parking space in the West End of London, for example, can fetch £500 a month, while in a leafy suburb of Leeds a space could net you £100.

9. Auctions

We're all guilty of hoarding items that "could come in handy one day". But one man's rubbish could be another man's treasure, which is why online auction website eBay.co.uk is so successful. In fact, eBay estimates the average British house has about £450 worth of unwanted items that could be sold on the site.
For more valuable items, it could be worth going to an auction. Jonty Hearnden, antiques expert and presenter of BBC 1's Cash in the Attic and Sun, Sea and Bargain Spotting, says you should contact a local auctioneer if you think an item could be valuable.
"You could be asked to email across a digital photo, which the auctioneer will assess for free, or the auctioneer might visit you at no extra cost to take a closer look - especially if it is a large item," he explains.

10. Car boot sales

If you'd prefer money in your palm instantly, a car boot sale is the place to go. Thousands of people flock to car boot sales every weekend, with pitches costing about £10 a day. To find out where to flog your booty, check out Carbootjunction.com.

11. Recycle your old mobile

Many of us have an old mobile phone gathering dust in a drawer somewhere, but you could easily turn it into cash, even if it is slightly damaged. Websites such as Mopay.co.uk, Fonebank.com and Envirofone.com will tell you how much your phone is worth. An iPhone 3G, for example, could fetch around £130.

12. Sell your skills

We all have skills and talents so why not use these to make a few extra quid.
"If you spent years of your life being marched to piano lessons, put the experience to good use in adulthood by advertising your services in the local newspaper as a music teacher, says Laura Howard in her book, CashQuestions.com's 100 Ways to Beat the Credit Crunch.
"Just three hour-long lessons a week could see you up to £60 better off, not to mention the sense of satisfaction you will get. The same applies for languages."

13. Be a Film extra

If you fancy seeing yourself on screen, film and TV companies are always on the hunt for extras. You could make up to £150 a day and get the chance to meet some famous actors. You'll need to join an agency first, details of one near you can be found at Nasaa.org.uk.
14. Rent your home to film makers
Hollywood can come to your home too, provided you have the right location. If you live in an interesting property, you could bag upwards of £1,000 a day renting your home to film and TV companies. Ideal locations must have large rooms, good parking facilities and understanding neighbours. Ordinary homes are wanted too.

15. Model your child

While every parent thinks their child is a star, model agencies could think so too. If you think your little one has what it takes, the first step is to contact an agency to ask about their requirements. You will be asked to send in a head and shoulders photo of your child, either by post or email.
If your child stands out, you'll both be invited for an interview, to assess if your child is right for TV, photo or film. Depending on the child's age, shoots pay upwards £50 an hour, but bear in mind that agencies can charge up to 25% commission.
16. Surveys that pay
The web also offers a wealth of balance-boosting opportunities. Survey websites such as Yougov.com, Panelbase.net and Toluna.com will all reward you for your opinions, either through cash or reward vouchers.
Once you've registered on the website, you'll be sent surveys tailored to your personal profile, ranging from 10p to £2 per survey.

17. Earn from web research

Any Question Answered (Issuebits.com), are often on the lookout for internet researchers. Once a customer asks a question through their mobile phone, it's the researcher's job to hunt out the answer and reply online.
You can choose your own hours and the questions you answer, and can earn around 30p for every question you answer correctly.

18. Review music

Budding Simon Cowells amongst us should check out soundout.com, a music website that pays users to review unsigned bands. The idea is simple: you sign up, listen to a track, rate it and write an honest review. You'll get 5p per review, but the more reviews you make the more you can charge — experienced reviewers can command 25p per song.
"If you're a dedicated reviewer, you can earn some decent pocket money, some users have earned in excess of £1,000," says David Courtier-Dutton, the founder of soundout.com.

19. Medical experiments

Volunteering for clinical trials doesn't just have to involve taking untested and risky drugs. Some clinical trials are perfectly safe, such as sleep studies, psychological tests and taste testers. Fit and healthy volunteers living in London willing to donate their blood for clinical research, for example, could be paid £60 a time.
But remember, never sign up for anything you are not happy with — risking your health for a few extra pounds is just not worth it. Go to Gpgp.net for trials in your area.

20. Join the TA

If you're brave and committed enough to sign up, the Territorial Army is always looking for recruits. You would need to give up one weekend a month, attend an annual two-week camp for basic training and be ready to be called to active service.
Basic pay starts at £34.41 a day, but can rise to £112.51. When you meet the minimum yearly training requirement (27 days if you're in a Regional Territorial unit, 19 days if you're in a National unit) you receive an extra payment known as a bounty. This increases as you spend more time as a Territorial, so within five years of joining, you could receive an extra £1600 a year.www.mannamart.com

10 things you’re wasting money on everyday

No one likes to spending money unnecessarily, so here are 10 things you need to stop wasting your money on!
1. Mobile phone insurance
One of my pet hates is mobile phone insurance. Admittedly, I know it works out well for some people, but overall, I can't help thinking it's a rip-off.
Mobile phone companies have a habit of coercing you into signing up for it whenever you take out a contract or get a new phone. But these policies are usually massively overpriced and riddled with catches, so that if you need to make a claim, more often than not your claim will be turned down.
If you are worried about losing or damaging your phone, it's worth checking your home insurance policy to see if it's covered instead.

2. Store cards

How many times over the past few months have you been offered a store card when you've been out shopping? Dozens I would imagine.
But the problem with store cards is that they entice you in with offers of 10% off and special member events, and then when you've spent a decent amount of money on the card and realise you can't afford to pay your bill in one go, you get hit with hefty interest rates. These rates can be as high as 30% so don't use one unless you can guarantee you will ALWAYS pay off your bill in full each month.
This goes for any other credit card that has a high rate of interest. If you know you won't be able to afford to clear your balance in full each month, you should use a 0% on new purchases credit card. The M&S Credit Card, for example, offers a market leading 15 months interest-free spending! You will also earn M&S reward points.
Alternatively, the Tesco Clubcard Credit Card offers 13 months at 0% interest on purchases, and you'll also earn Clubcard points as you spend.
Just make sure you pay off the balance in full before the interest-free period comes to an end.

3. Rubbish savings accounts

If you're trying to save (and we all know how hard that is in the current climate), make sure you're earning at least some interest on your savings.
Many savings accounts are now paying next to nothing in terms of interest — and if your account is one of those, you're effectively wasting money because you're saving without getting anything in return. So make sure you move your savings in to a better account and start earning some interest!
For example, the Nationwide MySave Online Plus Account is currently paying 2.95%, including a 1.41% bonus for 12 months. You only need £1 to open the account, but bear in mind you can only make one penalty-free withdrawal per year.

4. An expensive overdraft

If you're prone to slipping into the red, make sure you're not forking out stacks in interest for the privilege.
Some current accounts offer interest and fee-free overdrafts, so switch to one of these instead. For example, the new Santander Preferred Current Account offers a 0% overdraft for 12 months. And Santander says it will match your previous overdraft up to £5,000.
You'll also receive £100 cash if you apply for this account and if you end up getting out of your overdraft, you'll earn 5% interest (again for 12 months), up to balances of £2,500. Just bear in mind you will need to pay at least £1,000 into the account each month to qualify.
Alternatively, if you're happy with a smaller overdraft, you'll get a £250 interest-free overdraft with the First Direct 1st Account providing you pay £1,500 into the account each month or take out another First Direct product.
You'll also receive £100 for applying, and if you're not happy with the account within 12 months, you'll get another £100 to leave.

5. PPI

Payment protection insurance (PPI) is an optional insurance policy that's often sold alongside credit cards, personal loans and mortgages. It covers your repayments if you're unable to do so due to an accident, sickness or unemployment.
However, it's also a rip-off and is oversold and overpriced. As a result, the Financial Services Authority has been forced to step in and ensure policies are sold fairly from now on.

6. Extended warranties

Shop assistants are forever offering extended warranties if you're buying electrical goods. The idea behind them is that they provide around three to five years of cover, during which the good working order of an appliance remains the retailer's responsibility.
However, it could cost you more than half what you pay for the appliance itself. Plus, it's worth noting that the item may already be covered by a free manufacturer's guarantee, your statutory rights if the goods are faulty, Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act if you've paid by credit card, or your home insurance policy.
Personally, I think extended warranties are a waste of money. But if you do want one, doing some of your own research could mean you'll find a better deal than the one offered to you in the shop.

7. ID theft insurance

If you've ever phoned up your bank to report dodgy activity on your account, you're bound to have been offered identity theft insurance.
However, this insurance won't protect you against any financial loss you might suffer as a result of ID theft, and as a result, I can't see the point of it. A better option is protective registration from CIFAS that costs £14.10 a year.
8. Packaged current accounts
I've never been a fan of packaged current accounts. These accounts require you to pay a monthly fee in return for getting so-called perks such as car breakdown cover and travel insurance.
But unless you can guarantee you're going to make good use of these perks, I think you're probably throwing money down the drain. In my opinion, you'd be much better off going for a free current account and shopping around for breakdown cover and travel insurance yourself!

Compare travel insurance deals online

9. Boiler breakdown cover
I also think boiler breakdown cover is a waste of money. Typically, it costs between £100 and £200 per year, depending on how much cover you want. And again, the policies are often riddled with catches.
An alternative, and one which I think offers much better value for money, is Home Emergency Cover. You can add this cover onto your existing home insurance policy and it's generally much cheaper. What's more, it will cover you for a boiler breakdown and heating failure, as well as roofing problems, plumbing problems and failure of the gas, electricity and hot water systems.

10. GAP insurance

Finally, GAP or Guaranteed Asset Protection insurance is a very expensive add-on that you might be offered if you're buying a new car on finance.
The idea behind it is to offer you protection if your vehicle is stolen, damaged by fire or written off, and it covers the difference between the payout you receive from your insurer and the settlement figure on your car finance agreement.
However, premiums are unnecessarily high and I think this insurance is well worth avoiding — although if you do want to take it out, make sure you shop around and do some of your own research to see if you can get a better deal.

About Yeka Onka - Nigeria Idols Winner 2011

Onyeka Gilbert a.k.a Yeka Onka looks like a model straight from a fashion magazine. Her looks don’t lie because Yeka is indeed a former beauty Queen. She was crowned Queen of Abia at a beauty pageant in 2006. Winning the beauty pageant opened up a lot of doors for her but according to the tall, dark beauty being the Queen of Abia didn’t really pan out well as she expected.

The beauty pageant was an aside for her really. Her real passion in life had always been music. From a tender age, she had been singing with her family band. “My father was the leader of the band and he played the saxophone, guitar and the piano very well. My mum was the lead vocalist while me, my sisters and my brothers were backups.”

The family band however ‘part-disbanded’ in 2001 at the death of her mother and then fully so at the death of her father 5 years later in 2006. After her parents died, Gospel reggae artiste, Buchi took her under his wings and became her mentor. Yeka’s confidence was not dented by her orphan state. The word ‘no’ simply does not exist in her dictionary. Rather than accept ‘no’ from the Idol judges at the audition stage, the 26 year old beauty embarked on an ‘Idol mini tour’ that took her from Enugu to Calabar and finally Lagos where she eventually got her ‘Yes’! She says she probably couldn’t have done it alone but for the chance meeting with an Idol crew member after her first rejection in Enugu.

The crew member had encouraged her then by saying “it’s not how hard you fall but it’s what you do after you fall”. With that mentality Nigerian Idol Winner 2011 - Yeka Onka is giving Nigerian Idol all that she’s got.
