5 DANGERS OF FAKE ELECTRONICS AND HOW TO AVOID THEM

We at Mannastores promised to provide you more than a service, we are your trusted adviser and confidant so whenever we find information of benefit we let you know immediately. This is one of such information and more to come. Enjoy reading but please learn one or two things as well.
The danger associated with electronics is that it composes of dangerous chemicals anyway but in the right proportion and within rigorous safety restrictions and regulations by certain Authorities within the country of origin.  Counterfeiters don’t have brand to protect and they don’t care about you anyway, so they are after your money so they concort together whatever makes the product work until it gets to you and they get your money period.
  • Risk of death- it was in the news that ordinary fake mobile phone charger killed by electrocution and there are millions of them in Nigeria
  • Risk of injury-products exploding on plugging could cause serious permanent injury
  • Risk of fire- in a country with power outages and unregulated generator current, the risk of fire is higher with a fake electronic product.
  • Risk of illiness- fake products may emit dangerous gas which may cause illness especially relating to breathing and the functioning of the heart; carbon monoxide is the most dangerous as it kills in 5minutes as in the case of emission from generators
  • Loss of property-if a product explodes and causes fire, the likelihood is that other assets may be destroyed as a result.

Mannastores believes that we have responsibility to provide you with the information to make informed decision to protect you and your family and we don’t take it lightly that our people are not protected by the government agencies as anything can be imported into the country without question.  How to avoid them is to buy from reputable stores, and with the internet these days, you can shop from anywhere in the world even at a cheaper price! One of Mannastores goals is to provide our people with the alternatives to this menace and also make it possible for you to buy from UK and US where the standard is rigorously enforced; we also ensure that it is affordable by sniffing around to find you bargains on one hand and also charge you very low to provide the service. If you still want to buy locally, please look out for the followings:

  •          Packaging – Reputable businesses typically take great care in packaging their products. Beware flimsy packaging, packaging with substandard printing or running colors, or packages that appear to have been opened.

  •  ·         Look for a safety certification label. Just about any electrical product, and many other products that could pose some sort of safety risk, will have one or more safety certifications on its label if it's made by a legitimate manufacturer. The UL (Underwriters Laboratory) label is the most common, particularly in the U.S. (the competing ETL mark is also a major certification in the U.S.). In Europe, the CE (the abbreviation doesn't officially stand for anything) marking is required on electrical products, and in Canada the CSA (Canadian Standards Association) mark is common. Look for at least one of these marks on electrical products--there are often several, as well as other minor certifications.

  •  ·         Check the manufacturer's website. Many large companies now have information on their websites to alert customers to possible counterfeit products and to help them detect fakes

  •          Beware products that seem flimsy or are obviously poorly made. Quality control is often absent in counterfeiting operations, so you may be able to spot a counterfeit simply based on its workmanship.
  •          Pay attention to the products you buy. Odds are you purchase many of the same products or brands over and over again. Pay at least a little attention to them and you'll be much better at spotting a counterfeit because you'll have something to compare it to. If you're purchasing a brand that is new to you or a product that you don't frequently buy, compare it to the same product at other stores. You can also compare brands against other brands. For example, if you're not sure about a certain extension cord, compare it to others that are for sale in the same aisle

Finally, if you simply haven’t got enough money to buy a brand new product, please buy original used products which would be cheaper and safer than a brand new counterfeit. You can find reasonably priced electronic products on ebay.co.ukAmazon.co.uk, Morgan Computers, Laptop Centre etc; these websites have very good standard and feedback system which enforces good behaviour by the sellers on the platform.
